Map and wayfinding

Finding free rooms on the floor plan – and the way there

Kurz gesagt:

The map view shows resources where they are and colours them by availability. The floor bar moves between campus, building and storey, and a switch toggles top-down and 3D. "Navigate here" draws the route, step-free on request.

*Menu path: Select area → Map view*

The map view shows resources where they actually are: on a site plan, a floor plan, a storey. It answers two questions a list cannot – what is free near me and how do I get there.

If no unit has a plan, the map button in the view switcher is greyed out.

What the colours mean

Colour

Meaning

green

free

yellow

busy soon

red

occupied

Hovering over a resource shows its start and end time; on yellow it also says how much longer it is free. For the spontaneous case this is the fastest view there is.

Finding your way around

Search resource – a search field directly on the plan. Finding nothing, it reports "No resource found".

Floor bar – where several levels exist, this is where you move between campus, building and storey. Zeitwart guides the transitions with hints such as "Enter building" and "Leave building – continue across the campus".

Top-down or 3D – a switch moves between the flat view and a spatial one. For understanding a storey, 3D is often more helpful; for precise clicking, the top-down view.

Select a resource and then Navigate here. Zeitwart draws the route – through passages, stairs and lifts, across building and floor boundaries as well.

For the profile you can choose Standard or Step-free. Step-free avoids stairs and uses lifts and level passages instead. If no such route exists, Zeitwart says so honestly: "No step-free path found." – rather than sending you up a staircase.

Booking straight from the plan

Clicking a resource opens either the detail dialog or the booking directly, depending on the configuration. From there everything continues as described under Creating bookings.

Items on the map

It is not only rooms that sit on the plan but items too – projectors, trolleys, tools. They carry a colour of their own and answer the question of what is where. They cannot be booked.

When the map stays empty

A plan only shows what somebody placed on it. If your resource is missing, it simply has not been drawn in yet – a job for your administration, not a fault of your view.
