Home page and search
The way in – home tiles, your next appointments and the search across everything
The home page carries the home tiles as entry points into the bookable areas, your next bookings and the search field. The global search finds home tiles, rooms, items, events, displays and users from anywhere – by icon, from the home page or with Ctrl + K.
For most users the home page is where they land – and the springboard into everything else.
What you see there
Header – the title and subtitle of your installation. Your organisation sets both, along with the logo and the colour.
Search field – opens the global search. On a computer it sits prominently in the middle; on a phone the bottom bar takes over the search.
Home tiles – the configured entry points into the areas you may book in. Clicking one opens the area in the view stored for that tile.
My next bookings – your upcoming appointments at a glance.
Tiles, list or tree
From desktop width you can switch how the home tiles are presented:
Presentation | Good for |
|---|---|
Tiles | a handful of entry points with images, easy to recognise |
List | many entry points, quick to skim |
Tree | nested entry points, shows the structure |
On a phone it stays a list: tiles would end up in a single column there, and the tree lacks the width it needs.
Home tiles are personal
You only see the tiles your role allows. Two people see different home pages on the same installation – that is not a fault.
If an area you need is missing, that is a question of permissions and therefore one for your administration.
When you land somewhere else
The address / does not necessarily lead here. Your organisation can configure the home page to redirect straight to a particular tile or another page – to a room calendar, for instance, when there is only one anyway.
The Home menu item still brings you here in that case.
The global search
Opening the search
You can open the global search in several ways:
via the search icon in the navigation,
via the search bar on the home page,
with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + K (macOS).
The search starts automatically as soon as you have entered at least two characters.
Note: the global search is not available in display views.
What can you search for?
Results are grouped by category, always in the same order.
Home tiles
Name and description are searched. Clicking opens the home tile or the folder it belongs to.
Rooms
Room name and room description are searched. Clicking opens the room calendar of the selected room.
Items
Projectors, furniture, tools – everything your organisation keeps as inventory. The name is searched. Clicking opens the details of the item, including which room it is in.
Items cannot be booked in their own right. They answer the question "where is it?", not "is it free?".
Events
Event name and venue are searched. Only future events are shown. Clicking opens the event details.
Displays
If you have access to display administration, you can also search for displays. Clicking opens the detail view of that display.
Users
First name and last name are searched; the result list also shows the e-mail address. Depending on your permissions you can then open the user calendar or further information.
Search results
Up to ten matches are shown per category. Depending on the match, additional information is displayed, for example:
description
e-mail address
venue
date and time
assigned unit
Using the keyboard
The global search can be operated entirely from the keyboard.
Key | Function |
|---|---|
↑ / ↓ | move between matches |
Enter | open the selected match |
Esc | close the search |
If no match is selected, Enter opens the first entry of the result list.
No matches found
If no matching results are found after at least two characters, the message "No results found." appears.
Permissions
The global search only shows content you have access to. Depending on your permissions, different categories appear – two people get different results for the same query. Areas you have no access to do not show up at all.
Tips
Use Ctrl + K or Cmd + K to open the search at any time.
A few letters are usually enough.
The global search works well as quick navigation between the areas of Zeitwart.
