Items and inventory
Projectors, furniture, tools: you always know what is in which room.
Not everything standing in a room needs to be booked. The projector on the ceiling, the chairs, the trolley with the mobile kit – that is inventory. Zeitwart keeps it as items and answers a question that comes up constantly in day-to-day booking: what is actually where?
The difference from a resource
An item carries no availability. It is not booked along with anything, blocks nothing and appears in no calendar. It answers "what is where?", not "is it free?".
Anything that should be bookable in its own right – a projector shared between departments, a vehicle, a measuring instrument – is therefore not created as an item but as a resource. The separation keeps both clean: the inventory complete, and the booking lists free of things nobody ever reserves.
Type, slug and custom attributes
Every item has a freely chosen type – "projector", "monitor", "chair" – which groups them and is the most practical filter once the stock grows. Alongside it sits a slug as a stable identifier: it survives a change of name and is the reference point for imports.
Everything else you define through the attribute template for items: inventory number, purchase date, serial number, condition, cost centre. Those same fields can then be used as filters.
Also for things that travel
An item can be assigned to several rooms. That is deliberate, not a flaw: for stock that moves between rooms – trolleys, mobile kit – it reflects the real state better than a forced one-to-one assignment.
Visibility follows the room
Items belong to no organisational unit. Their visibility is inherited through the room: anyone with the right to see assigned items on a resource sees its inventory. The permission structure therefore stays in one place instead of repeating itself for the inventory.
