Home tiles
People land on the rooms they actually need straight after signing in.
The home page decides how quickly somebody reaches their room. Home tiles are the shortcut: large, labelled areas that lead straight into a ready-filtered room selection. Cut them well and your users never have to filter at all.
Three kinds of tile
View – leads into a resource view with a fixed room filter. You also decide what it opens with: day, week or month calendar, list, table, tiles or map.
Event group – jumps straight into the dates of a group, for example a semester programme.
Folder – bundles further tiles when one level is no longer enough.
Along your organisation – or across it
The obvious cut is the faculties of a university or the departments of a company: a click on Marketing shows all the resources of that department – meeting rooms, desks, vehicles.
But tiles do not have to follow the organisational structure. A tile called "Pool vehicles" bundles every vehicle, even where they belong to different departments. That way you model how people actually look for things, not how the building is administered.
One tile, many viewpoints
The room selection behind a tile is a preselection, not a permission. It decides what is eligible behind the tile at all; what remains visible is only what the viewer's role may see anyway.
Two people therefore see different amounts behind the same tile – and that is the point. A tile called "Seminar rooms" works for everybody but shows each person only their part. You maintain one tile instead of one per audience.
Every tile has an address
Each tile is reachable directly through its path, which is at the same time its position in the tree: pc-pool is the folder, pc-pool.pool-a the map view inside it. Because that is a real address, it can be handed out – as a link in an internal notice or as a QR code at the entrance that takes visitors straight to the right selection.
How to lay them out
A few clear tiles beat many fine ones. A site with three buildings does well with three tiles plus one for "all rooms"; the filter in the view handles the refinement. Folders only start to pay off at around a dozen tiles.
