Tenants
Several licensees in one installation – cleanly separated, each with its own quota.
Some installations carry more than one organisation. A computing centre runs Zeitwart for several universities, a charity for several facilities, a service provider for several customers. Tenants separate these licensees cleanly – inside a single installation that you only have to operate and update once.
What a tenant brings
Every tenant has its own licence scope, its own licence point quota and its own users and displays. Billing therefore runs per licensee even though technically only one installation is running.
If your installation has only one operator, you do not need this: there is then exactly one tenant as a global fallback, and the menu item stays practically unused.
The licence scope
The scope is the decisive field. It assigns organisational units to a tenant – and with them their licence points. Enter hho, for example, and the unit hho plus every unit below it counts towards that tenant. An empty scope makes it the global fallback for anything not assigned elsewhere.
Because the scope hangs on the tree of organisational units, the separation grows out of the same structure that already governs permissions and rules. You do not maintain a second hierarchy.
Where this pays off
computing centres and IT service providers running several customers on one installation
charities with several legally separate facilities
university networks sharing an installation but billing separately
providers passing Zeitwart on as part of their own offering
Licences in view
With several tenants, the licence point overview compares quota, consumption and balance per tenant, together with the time of the last synchronisation with the licence server. One page then shows which licensee still has room and which is reaching its limit.
