Accessibility

High-contrast mode, keyboard operation and every detail required by BITV 2.0.

Accessibility is not optional for public bodies. In Germany it is required under BITV 2.0 – and for everybody else it is simply what makes it possible for every person in the building to book a room. Zeitwart is therefore built from the ground up to be operable without a mouse, without distinguishing colours and with a screen reader.

High-contrast mode

Zeitwart includes a high-contrast mode that switches the interface to markedly stronger contrasts. Each person chooses it for themselves in their profile.

So that the people who need it can also find it, the quick access can be switched on: an accessibility symbol then appears permanently – in the top bar when signed in, as a floating symbol at the bottom right when signed out. That way it reaches visitors who never sign in at all, for instance at a public terminal.

Contrast matters with your own colour too

The interface can be adapted to your house colour. That can destroy contrast where white type sits on a very light shade. The documentation explicitly advises checking the WCAG AA threshold before rolling out a light brand – accessibility should not fail because of corporate design.

The accessibility statement

For public bodies a published statement is mandatory. Zeitwart holds the necessary details as settings of their own:

  • contact name and e-mail address for accessibility feedback

  • the date the statement was created and the date of the last review

  • the assessment method – self-assessment or third-party assessment

  • the name and web address of the responsible enforcement or arbitration body

Out of that comes a reachable, current statement with a feedback route – exactly what BITV 2.0 requires. The review date should be brought forward after every larger change to the installation.

Why this concerns procurement

In public sector tenders accessibility is regularly a knock-out criterion. Anyone who cannot supply the details for the statement drops out of the assessment. Zeitwart brings the fields for it rather than having to submit them later in an annex.

Benefits at a glance

  • high-contrast mode that each person switches on for themselves

  • quick access can be shown to visitors who are not signed in

  • a reminder about the WCAG AA threshold when adapting your own colour

  • every mandatory detail of the accessibility statement available as a setting

  • meets the requirements of BITV 2.0 for public bodies
